The Temple Coalition for the Fine Arts (TCFA) was formed in 2001 by a group of parents and community members who desired to support arts education in the Temple Independent School District (TISD). They brought in a speaker to raise awareness of the importance of arts education. This led to the establishment of a Director of Fine Arts position in TISD.
They also established a program called the Temple Instrumental Music Exchange (TIME) whereby community members with unused musical instruments could donate those for use in the TISD music classes. TCFA, in collaboration with local music stores, had the instruments repaired and refurbished as needed. This program ended with the transfer of instruments and funding to TISD for the continuation of support of the program by the school district.
Over the years the TCFA also held community forums when there was a contested school board election to allow the candidates to speak and take questions from the audience.
The organization’s most recent activity was to fund an endowed scholarship at Temple College recognizing Mrs. Natasha Tolleson, the retiring theater teacher at Temple High School.
